A Different Christmas with Puppets, Theater, and New Carols

By David García

The Tradiciones Mexicanas Corazón de Niño Company has been dedicated for 14 years to creating music and stage shows that promote Mexican traditions through the arts. Located in Mexico City, two of its productions will be presented for the first time in San Miguel de Allende in the central courtyard of the Public Library, featuring a very Mexican flavor dedicated to the December holidays.

On Tuesday, December 21, we begin with the presentation of puppets and piano entitled “Where is Christmas,” with music by David García and text by Ulises David Gómez, in a story that reminds us of the value of the family union. This is a warm dialogue between a grandfather and his grandson, who is desperately searching for the meaning of Christmas in a material world. Throughout the presentation, both characters will lead us with their songs and good humor to that special place that Christmas has reserved for those who keep the feeling in their hearts. The staging is under the direction of David García, who will also be at the piano, and we will have the talent of Érik Enríquez and Chantal García to bring the characters to life.

On Wednesday, December 22, we continue with the presentation of the concert for piano and two voices entitled “Christmas with the Flavor of Mexico,” with music by David García created specially to evoke the feeling of Mexico during the December holidays. The repertoire includes songs such as “The Merry Candy Train” and “Christmas Light,” whose rhythm immediately introduces us to the joy of the season, along with “The Arrival of the Three Kings,” which evokes the accumulation of emotions that the date provokes in adults and children, and “Cuetlaxochitl,” a song dedicated to the Mexican flower whose beauty has made it worthy of occupying a special place in the traditional Christmas nativity sets of Mexico and the world. Other songs include “Let’s Go Little Donkey to Belen,” in which we can enjoy a musical representation of the main facts of Christmas Eve; “Celestial Symphony”; and “The Faith and the Hope,” with its magical notes that invite reflection. The performance will close with “A Party of Color,” which reminds us that the best way to celebrate Christmas is achieved when we liberate our inner child. We are accompanied by the wonderful voices of Ariadna Monsiváis and Ilse Rojas, sopranos with a wide musical career.

Join us for a different Christmas with these two original shows, where music is the protagonist and with a flavor inspired by Mexico and its traditions of the Christmas season.
