Sessions at Coyote Flaco

By Francisco Peyret

Following a 50-year-old family tradition, José Bernardo Luna, owner of Coyote Flaco, welcomes this concept defined as «Sessions» by its main promoter, Cuban musician and pianist Gabriel Hernández. These one-day concerts or festivals will be presented once a month at Coyote Flaco, with the idea of putting together special lineups made up of musicians of renowned trajectory, performing different musical genres to live unrepeatable and unmissable experiences.

This first «Session» will take place on March 26th at 3pm, at Coyote Flaco (Carretera Santuario de Atotonilco km 2). Hernandez shares that it will be a musical encounter with a unique essence and strength, that strength and magic that only happens through music with the fusion of different rhythms, genres, and styles in a single presentation.

With the participation of musicians with a vast trajectory, this first concert is programmed in three moments: the first group is led by Hernandez with a quintet of Mexican and Cuban musicians to perform jazz music where the participation of the Cuban musician, saxophonist Alfred Thompson, musical director, arranger, composer and record producer, stands out. He was a musician of the well-known Buena Vista Social Club with which he received a Grammy Award in 1998 and a Latin Grammy Award in 2004.

Next comes the participation of Luis Gasca, the special guest of the event. This Cuban musician began his career at a very young age accompanying Maestro Pérez Prado. In his long career he has worked on multiple projects accompanying stars of international music history such as Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana, and Herbie Hancock.

To continue, Yaima Gutiérrez (pianist and director of the orchestra Primera Clase) will be in charge of the Cuban dance music section, featuring the music of the Buena Vista Social Club. Finally, all participants will gather to close what seems to be an unforgettable first «Session.»
