Sophisticated Geometry: PLATZ’s Magic

By Margaret Failoni

PLATZ, Tucuman, Argentina, 1982.

This artist’s abstract forms create a geometric space that is a complex reflection of infinity; the artist uses classic, abstract, geometric forms giving depth and glamour by inclusion of gold and silver, and sometimes lengthening his gesture by combining strokes into triangles, rectangles and circles. Most works are in black and white with the geometric structures zig-zagging in all directions, creating complex, usually cubical shapes. Despite the same consistency of content throughout the works, each piece maintains a unique design of their own. PLATZ creates interlocking scaffolds that overlap with a deep consideration of architecture.

For this exhibition, PLATZ has created dramatic compositions in which geometric shapes are meshed into a mystical labyrinth.

PLATZ’s work has been exhibited and collected in his native Argentina, and in Ecuador, Germany, New York, and Mexico. The artist now lives and works in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
