Ambassador of the Magic Towns of Guanajuato

By Paola Velasco

Estefanía Valdez has been selected as the winner of the 2022 State Ambassador of Magical Towns and Culture of Guanajuato contest. There were four candidates: one from Mineral de Pozos, another from Salvatierra, and two from Dolores Hidalgo.

The 10 members of the jury evaluated, among other criteria, the candidates’ overall presentation, modeling of regional dress, talent, and responses to a question and answer session.

As the winner and newly elected ambassador, Estefanía is responsible for choosing projects focused on the promotion of tourism and culture of the Pueblos Mágicos of Guanajuato. She will also attend cultural events in different parts of the state. Some of the first activities she will take on are a tour of municipalities with tourism potential, organizing conferences, and advising and training for entrepreneurship, particularly for women who seek to start their own projects.

Who is Estefanía?

She was born in April 2002 in Guanajuato capital. At a young age, she moved to Dolores Hidalgo, where she is currently studying agri-food process engineering at the Benito Juárez Welfare University (UBBJ) in San Diego de la Union. Five years ago, Estefanía started her own tourism project, a regional food company that produces mole, chocolate, and liquor. In addition, she is a singer of Mexican folkloric music, as well as an accomplished fine arts oils painter.

Estefanía stated, “What motivated me to enter this contest is my love of culture and tourism. My career has also involved singing and being a presenter.”
