The Instituto Allende is one of the most traditional historic buildings in San Miguel de Allende: it was the manor house of the Counts of Canal in 1734. Later, in 1950, Felipe Cossío del Pomar founded the School of Arts here and since then it has served as a space for art. It is also a pioneer in the teaching of Spanish to the foreign community in the city. But also, it is a beautiful place with lovely architecture and tradition.

You may be familiar with the large patio because there have been many events held there. However, in the back, there is also the area of the school. Instituto Allende houses the San Miguel School of Visual Arts, and it is here that we have an invitation for you to attend an event that you are going to love.

On Saturday, May 14, the students of the Bachelor of Visual Arts course of study will present the ‘Expresarte’ Art Garden. Here, the works and creations of the students, teachers, and some guests will be exhibited, such as Agripino Aguilar, a painter from Salamanca, who was invited by the House of Culture of Salamanca.

Valeria Zárate and Patricia Molina, undergraduate students and exhibitors, will be present during the event. They comment, filled with emotion, that «There will be some other surprises. The event will not be a bazaar or a craft market, but a fair of art that the public can appreciate through a tour. Upon entering, guests will see some of our exhibited works and, as they advance, they will also find live music—DJ set-up and a musical group. There will also be a performance by Caja Negra, a theatrical collective of San Miguel. In other areas you will find food, sales of some of our creations, and more!”

The event will take place from 10am to 5pm, admission is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to have a good time in the company of family and pets, as it will be pet-friendly. It is also an excellent opportunity to get to know the beautiful gardens of the Instituto Allende and to support students who are beginning to venture into the world of art. Perhaps you will even take home a couple of works made by San Miguel hands. See you at Express Yourself!

The Instituto Allende is located at Ancha de San Antonio 22.
