We are coming to the end of the grape harvest season in Guanajuato. One of the recent events was the Grape Harvest of Viñedo los Arcángeles on September 24. The entrance ticket included a tour of the vineyards and cellars, a wine workshop, a beekeeping workshop, live music, tastings of different varieties, and a souvenir glass.
I want to introduce you to Viñedo los Arcángeles because it is a small winery doing a great job of getting the best of the area’s terroir. Located on the highway to San Diego de la Unión km 13 in Dolores Hidalgo,.it is a Mexican family winery that aims to develop the excellence of the experience in the wine business, demonstrating it in each of their bottles in a wide variety of wines. The winemaker is Ulises Ruiz. His vineyard has recently won two medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles with the Savignon Blanc 2020 wines. The vineyard received a gold medal for best new wine, and a silver medal for the 2019 Cabernet Franc.
The soil of Guanajuato is well known for its fertility, making it an appropriate place for planting vineyards. Even Father Hidalgo knew this in the 19th century when he taught the indigenous people of the area of today’s Dolores Hidalgo how to plant vines and make wine. The wines are refreshing to the palate.
