For the June 18 service, UUFSMA members and friends are invited to gather online with the members of Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist (TRUU) congregation. This 70-member UU congregation is located in Carbondale, Colorado. Sue Edelstein, a UUFSMA member, is also a member of the TRUU congregation, thus the joint service via Zoom.
The topic of the service will be “Rituals of Letting Go.” Aaron Brown, the speaker, notes, “Wisdom texts remind us how important it is to release attachments and surrender our clinging.” Brown will explore, «How do we do that when some of our attachments are programmed into the very substance of our beings by long habits and old stories?» He will examine the art of ritual as a means of inner healing, and then suggest some options to help let go of whatever is getting in one’s way.
Brown is one of the TRUU congregation’s favorite outside speakers. His talks are lively, introspective, and thought-provoking. He is a graduate of Iliff Theological Seminary in Denver. He develops coaching and leadership programs in his day job and ponders mysteries in the wee hours. Brown has a master’s in theology and a bachelor’s in economics and English.
Carbondale, Colorado is a hub for outdoor life, the arts, climate awareness, and other progressive activities. TRUU is based at Third Street Center, an abandoned elementary school the town acquired and converted to a center that offers under-market rent to nonprofit organizations.
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal faith inviting its community to gather around a set of harmonizing values and principles for living. Our UU Fellowship welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Belief in a divinity is not the central issue around which we gather for worship and generous action. Rather, we come together with a belief in community, love, compassion, social justice, reverence for nature, and the spirituality of music, all within the interconnected web of existence.
UUFSMA donates generously to support nonprofit organizations that provide health, educational, and environmental services for underserved communities in the San Miguel region. Please support this work by clicking on the website home page Donate button.
