Businesspeople from CANACO SERVyTUR San Miguel de Allende (San Miguel de Allende Chamber of Commerce), known as CANACOSMA, held a meeting last May 31 with representatives of the National Guard to request greater security support.

The president of CANACOSMA, Dulce Perales Betancourt, reported that the meeting was very productive and important for this sector and for the people of San Miguel. She pointed out that security is very important, and for this reason, this meeting invited those in charge of security at the federal level for this area of the state.

In this working meeting, the members of CANACOSMA and San Miguel businesspersons from the tourist industry expressed their concerns and worries, mainly about the highways leading to different airports, such as Mexico City, Querétaro, and Silao. For these roads, they specifically requested greater surveillance in the most vulnerable areas, where there is not even a telephone signal.

During the meeting, each businessperson spoke about their own bad experiences, mainly on highways where they have been robbed or suffered attempted robbery. They also stated that they had been victims of extortion.

The businesspeople specified that the highways that have the greatest conflict are the Juventino Rosas junction with San Miguel, the Querétaro-San Miguel road, and Celaya-San Miguel road. They also mentioned the Cieneguita section towards Atotonilco, where several robberies have been reported.

For his part, Commander Vidal of the National Guard emphasized the importance of reporting incidents right away to enable them to locate and respond quickly to any type of insecurity situation on the road.

Vidal explained that Guanajuato is number one at the national level in the prompt recovery of cars that are reported stolen, thanks to the immediate and efficient response by the elements of the National Guard.

The commander explained that troops act regardless of where the report originates and shared that from September of last year to today there have been around 300 reports filed, and this year 160 cars have been recovered. This work is thanks to the coordination and communication with various agencies that collaborate with the National Guard.
