International Museum Day: May 18

On May 18, International Museum Day was celebrated. The day was chosen by the International Council of Museums in 1977, and since that date it has been celebrated with various activities globally and in all museums. In 2023 the international theme is «Museums, Sustainability, and Well-being.»

Museums all over the world are joining forces with the same purpose. It is not only about protecting the cultural legacy of the communities in which they live, but also about spreading the traditions and history of their peoples thus preventing their disappearance. 

Querétaro Will Host the International Automotive Industry Supply Summit 2023

The event will take place at the Querétaro Congress Center and will bring together key players in the automotive sector. It is estimated that more than 2,000 companies from the automotive industry will participate. In addition, there will be 500 stands with auto parts, products, and services. Querétaro is expected to receive more than 10,000 visitors. Buyers from the country’s main assemblers of light and heavy vehicles will also attend the expo. It is estimated that business opportunities will be generated for more than US$3,500 million. The event will take place on May 31 and June 1.

Magos Herrera Returns to San Miguel

On May 5, Mexican jazz singer and composer Magos Herrera released her new album “Aire.” She will be visiting San Miguel to present it, and on June 3 will have a concert with her trio and the José White string quartet. This will take place at the Ángela Peralta Theater at 7pm. Herrera presents a luminous collection of new songs and gems from the great Latin American songbook. It will be performed in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. It will also include a tribute to the famous Mexican shaman María Sabina. «We have been dealing with something that we did not see coming and that was beyond what we could have imagined,» stated Herrera, referring to the COVID-19 lockdowns that were suffered.

International Film Festival in Guadalajara 38th Edition

The Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) is one of the major festivals in Mexico. It will begin on June 3 with the Latin American premiere of «Asteroid City,» by American director Wes Anderson, with tributes to Italian editor Roberto Perpignani and Mexican actress Erendira Ibarra. The director of the Festival, Estrella Araiza, announced this Friday that Anderson’s film will open the festival. The FICG is celebrating its 38th year and will run from June 3 to 9. This is the first time that the Latin American public can see the film prior to its premiere in the United States on June 16. It has already been shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Unesco Cities Subdivision

The Municipal Administration announces the reactivation of the offer of affordable housing for all San Miguel families with the Unesco Cities. This subdivision of social interest housing began in 2021 during the previous Municipal Administration (2018-2021). The first houses will be delivered next June and the construction of 100 houses is projected for 2023. There will be 22 housing modules, with a one-level prototype measuring 6.5 x 12.5 m. They will have two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom, service patio, and possibility of extension. The cost of each unit will be 750,000 pesos.

There will be various dancers: the Matlachines Dance «Arqueros del Sol» from Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco; the «DI NEJJIS» dance from Comonfort; Dance of the little bull «San Miguel Rey» from Silao Guanajuato; Folkloric Ballet from the community of Galvanes; Dance of «Ometeotl» from the Santa Cruz del Cerro de Culiacán de Cortazar, Guanajuato; and Dance «Camada Tepoxtla» of San José «Totolac» of the state of Tlaxcala, at 10:30am. Parade of mojigangas, dancers, a picture of Locos, and floats through the main streets of the city at 11am. Corpus: 5pm. Parandes entry from El Cedro: 6:30pm. Traditional colloquium «The Hidden Treasure» and greased pole in the atrium of the Parroquia: 7pm. Burning of fireworks, “monkeys,” “bulls,” and a beautiful castle: 9:30 pm.
